چکیده

The ray buuer algorithm presented here is part of an alternative strategy of ray tracing called breadth rst ray tracing. Breadth rst ray tracing diiers from usual pixel-wise rendering in tracing whole generations of rays together. This means that rst all rays of view are treated, next the set of re-ecting and refracting rays, then the reeecting and refracting rays caused by them, and so on. The calculation of intersections for a generation of rays uses the ray-z-buuer algorithm. The ray-z-buuer algorithm generalizes the well-known depth buuer algorithm. Like the depth buuer algorithm the ray-z-buuer algorithm allows to render scenes with an unbounded number of primitives. An implementation based on nested adaptive quadtrees is presented. Analysis and measuring show the rendering time increasing sublinearly in the resolution of the image, and increasing linearly in the number of primitives. The main memory required only depends on the resolution of the image, in about linear manner.

Ray-tracing and Interferometry in Schwarzschild Geometry

Here, we investigate the possible optical anisotropy of vacuum due to gravitational field. In doing this, we provide sufficient evidence from direct coordinate integration of the null-geodesic equations obtained from the Lagrangian method, as well as ray-tracing equations obtained from the Plebanski’s equivalent medium theory. All calculations are done for the Schwarzschild geometry, which resu...

A hybrid CPU-GPU Implementation for Interactive Ray-Tracing of Dynamic Scenes

In recent years, applying the powerful computational resources delivered by modern GPUs to ray tracing has resulted in a number of ray tracing implementations that allow rendering of moderately sized scenes at interactive speeds. For non-static scenes, besides ray tracing performance, fast construction of acceleration data structures such as kd-trees is of primary concern. In this paper, we pre...

Automatic Creation of Object Hierarchies for Ray Tracing of Dynamic Scenes

Ray tracing acceleration techniques most often consider only static scenes, neglecting the processing time needed to build the acceleration data structure. With the development of interactive ray tracing systems, this reconstruction time becomes a serious bottleneck if concerned with dynamic scenes. In this paper, we describe two strategies for efficient updating of bounding volume hierarchies ...

State of the Art in Ray Tracing Animated Scenes

Ray tracing has long been a method of choice for off-line rendering, but traditionally was too slow for interactive use. With faster hardware and algorithmic improvements this has recently changed, and real-time ray tracing is finally within reach. However, real-time capability also opens up new problems that do not exist in an off-line environment. In particular real-time ray tracing offers th...
